James Hall

James is a recent graduate from Manchester School of Art whose work focuses around the investigation of materials and process. Combining both craft and digital elements within the making of objects has helped discover the possibilities of a multidisciplinary approach to working, especially in uncovering new applications of processes to different materials.

'Blown' explores the transformative processes that can be applied to plastic. Each form derives from a combination of heat and pressure that causes the plastic to grow and expand in a way that is unpredictable. Capturing the undulation of each shape in a traditional ceramic material can change the perspective one views plastic, demonstrating just one of the unique capabilities of what is usually deemed an 'everyday', ordinary material.
